Who

I’m Michael Smith, and at the time of writing this, I just unboxed a new 5-gallon aluminum fuel tank for my 2000 Seaward 25, Athena, and added it to the pile of boat parts that are patiently waiting for the weather to break and the start of the spring project list.  It’s February, the sun set about 2 hrs ago, and it’s 20 degrees outside.  I found myself dreaming about the upcoming sailing season and the several trips I have in the planning stages, thinking we have room for more folks to join us.   So I figured, what the heck, I’ll make a website, then stumble around on social media in the hopes of finding a few other sailors in a similar predicament.

At the end of last season – and after seeing the bottom of a few boat drinks – two other Colorado sailors and I wondered how to find others who would enjoy a trailer sailing adventure or two.  Someone said – if we plan some trips – others are bound to join in.   So we have planned a trip to Lake Pueblo in May, Lake Granby in July, and a return to the Apostle Island in Lake Superior in August…now we just have to sit back and wait for some other adventures Skippers to say I’m in.

Or, some of those same Skippers may say, “What about somewhere else? ” I love sailing at Lake [enter name here]. Do you want to join me? I know I will be saying I’m in. I love a new adventure with my boat.

Yeah, yeah, I know there is a bit more to it than that.   Mainly being – who the heck would I be sailing with?  Will I like them?   Well, 3 of us sail at Chatfield Reservoir several times a week – come join us for a sail and find out.  What do you have to lose?

How We Organize

Trips are planned with input from those attending, but each sail has a coordinator who is responsible for some of the trip planning and a preliminary float plan.   Daily float plans are weather-dependent and based on each captain’s sailing comfort and ability.

These are not thoroughly planned events so please do not expect to be pampered.  Each Captain is responsible for their crew and vessel.  Yes, we are sailors, and sailors help each other, but you are expected to have all the required supplies and a vessel and crew capable of the planned activities.

We caravan when folks want to – or meet at the marina to help each other rig and launch when needed…an extra person on a dock line is often helpful.

This is not a formal club; we are just sailors who like to experience adventures with other sailors.
